Area LS6
The area LS6 is known for great parties and creativity in the street arts and culture scene.
LS6 area can seem a bit run down at times, but there are plenty of things to do and learn, Leeds University is in the same area.
I am proud to be from Hyde Park LS6, this is one of the more diverse areas of Leeds.
Lots of people come to Hyde Park every year for Unity Day which was born out of a mini riot. This started in 1995, due to a lack of activities and opportunities for the young people at the time. The lack of creative opportunities for people led to crime which damaged the reputation and community of the LS6 area.
Hyde Park Unity Day was created by the Residents Association to unite the community and promote social cohesion.
I got involved with Hyde Park Unity Day to help the young people who lacked opportunities to be noticed in the entertainment industry. Unity Day is there to help support young people and provide a platform to gain exposure.
For my part I work to organise the young people, encouraging them to get involved, which helps build their confidence to perform. This helps them to be more involved in the community, in a more positive manner.
I have seen many changes in this area, but some things are still the same, UNITY.
